Radek Sali, CEO Swisse Wellness: ‘Integrated Nutrition: A Strategy for a Healthier and Happier World’
One of Swisse’s strengths is that it is “making nutra normal,” by taking sports nutrition out of the gym and putting it on the high street, making it accessible to one and all and empowering consumers to take care of their health. Therefore putting health and well-being into the better educated consumer, who wants to make informed choices about staying fitter, healthier and happier … for longer. This also touches on elements of healthy ageing – both physical and mental – being a key driver for the baby boomer generation and the elderly.

The natural extension of this concept, particularly as Swisse already offers male and female specific supplements, is personal nutrition. Instead of only relying on synthetic drugs in the future, the next generation will be able to select from a menu, based on their genetic profile, of specific foods, ingredients and finished products that will enable them to prevent or manage disease conditions.

With Swisse also conducting and running clinical trials, an area where the food and nutrition industry can learn from established Pharma, in fact integrative medicine is the future of health. A clinical trial or health intervention study increases client trust and credibility, and goes a long way to disproving the old ‘snake oil adage’.

The biggest global health issue is obesity. For all the available diet products on the market, the world is still getting fatter and riddled with lifestyle diseases (Syndrome X, diabetes, CVDs, etc.). Two questions to ask: how can we address this disconnect … and why are substantial proportions of the world’s population overweight and starving?

I will explore some potential solutions stemming from making health more freely accessible, fashionable, affordable, encourage patient advocacy and better education.
